Uniform should be worn every day at Ballacottier School and when the children are representing the school at outside events. It is inexpensive in the long run, cuts out competition between children to buy and wear the latest fashion items and gives the school its own identity, which is very important.

Uniform can be purchased from promenadeschoolwear.com (sweatshirts and cardigans) and dangerousapparel.com (polo shirts) in Douglas. Sample sizes are kept in school. If you would like to check what size item your child needs, please see the school office.

The school uniform is as follows: -

Ballacottier navy blue polo shirt with either Ballacottier navy sweatshirt or cardigan with black or navy blue trousers or skirt. Stout, black shoes or black trainers (all one colour) that are non-marking; plain socks or tights.

During the summer months children may wear the same uniform but with sensible school style shorts or skorts or blue and white or yellow and white gingham dresses. Sandals can be worn but the colour should be black or blue.

All shoes should be sensible, black, stout leather type lace-ups or T-bars. Fancy heels, platforms or slip-ons are not suitable on safety grounds although sensible sandals may be worn - the colour should be black or blue.

Jewellery (other than watches) is not permitted. Earrings, if worn, must be simple, plain studs. For all Games, P.E. and swimming all earrings must be removed or securely taped over.

Swimming Day: Normal uniform is to be worn.

Bags: Ballacottier Books Bags and P E Bags can be purchased from the school.

Games and PE Clothing

Each child requires a strong bag (not carrier bag) suitable for hanging on a peg, in which to keep Games and P.E. clothes. It is also recommended that each child has either a tracksuit or other over-clothes, which can be worn over their sports kit on cold days. We sell customised kit bags at school.

All sports kit must be taken home regularly for washing and cleaning (usually each half term) and must be brought back to school on the first day of the school week.

The following kit is required in order that children may take part safely in P.E./Games:-

For Gymnastics - Boys and Girls:

Children are to wear their everyday navy blue polo shirt during P.E. along with plain white or black close fitting shorts (not Bermuda or other baggy style).

Plimsolls or bare feet.

Tights are dangerous for gymnastic work and should not be worn.

For Games - on the Yard or Indoors - Boys and Girls:

Navy Blue Polo Shirt or Sweatshirt.

Shorts (plain colour, not ‘Bermuda style’).

Plimsolls, trainers or similar footwear should be worn.

Sports socks.

5th and 6th Year Boys will require a change of socks.

Trainers.

Football boots and shin pads may be needed for use on the school pitch - please ask for details before purchasing.

Children may occasionally use facilities at the N.S.C. We recommend that children wear tracksuits on these occasions. Trainers will be required also at the N.S.C.

For swimming:

A special bag is required (plastic carrier bag will do).

Towel.

Costume or Trunks (N.S.C. rules state that ordinary shorts and Bermuda style trunks will not be allowed)

It is a requirement that girls or boys with long hair wear a swimming hat.

Brush and/or comb may be brought.

Goggles may only be used.

Swimming kit must be taken home the same day.

ALL CLOTHING AND BELONGINGS MUST BE CLEARLY MARKED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME. PLEASE RE-MARK ITEMS IF THE INK WASHES OUT.

ALL OUR CHILDREN WEAR THE SAME TOPS THEREFORE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND OUT WHICH BELONGS TO WHICH CHILD UNLESS IT HAS A NAME IN IT!

Hair styles

Please ensure that your child attends school with an appropriate hairstyle. We do not appreciate inappropriate styles or colours. Let them be children whilst they have the chance, there is plenty of opportunity when they are older for more “creative” hairstyles!

Bags

Ballacottier School book bags can be purchased from the school office. Please do not send your child into school with a ruck sack for books as we have limited space for storage of more bulky bags.
