At Ballacottier Primary School we wish to project a smart look and take our appearance seriously. We believe that by dressing in a similar way our pupils develop a strong sense of personal pride and togetherness. Children can feel awkward or out of place if they do not look like their peer group.
Uniform can be purchased from promenadeschoolwear.com (sweatshirts and cardigans) and dangerousapparel.com (polo shirts) in Douglas. Sample sizes are kept in school. If you would like to check what size item your child needs, please see the school office.
The school uniform is as follows: -
Ballacottier navy blue polo shirt with either Ballacottier navy sweatshirt or cardigan with black or navy blue trousers or skirt. Stout, black shoes or black trainers (all one colour) that are non-marking; plain socks or tights.
During the summer months children may wear the same uniform but with sensible school style shorts or skorts or blue and white or yellow and white gingham dresses. Sandals can be worn but the colour should be black or blue.
All shoes should be sensible, black, stout leather type lace-ups or T-bars. Fancy heels, platforms or slip-ons are not suitable on safety grounds although sensible sandals may be worn - the colour should be black or blue.
Jewellery (other than watches) is not permitted. Earrings, if worn, must be simple, plain studs. For all games, P.E. and swimming all earrings must be removed or securely taped over.
Hair styles
To discourage the transmission of head lice, we would encourage children with long hair to keep it tied back. Please can more creative hairstyles be saved for the school holidays as when children are in their uniform they are representing Ballacottier Primary School to the general public.
Bags
Ballacottier Primary School book bags can be purchased via ParentPay or from the school office. Please do not send your child into school with a ruck sack for books as we have limited space for storage of more bulky bags.
Games and PE Clothing
Each child requires a strong bag to keep their games and P.E. clothes in. We sell customised kit bags at school.
All sports kit must be taken home regularly for washing and cleaning (usually each half term) and must be brought back to school on the first day of the school week.
The following kit is required in order that children may take part safely in P.E./Games:-
For Gymnastics - Boys and Girls:
Children are to wear their everyday navy blue polo shirt during P.E. along with plain white or black close fitting shorts (not Bermuda or other baggy style).
Pumps or bare feet.
Tights are dangerous for gymnastic work and should not be worn.
For Games - on the Yard or Indoors - Boys and Girls:
Navy Blue Polo Shirt or Sweatshirt.
Shorts (plain colour, not ‘Bermuda style’).
Pumps for indoor games lessons; trainers or similar footwear should be worn outdoors.
We will inform you if there is a need for football boots, shin pads and sports socks.
Children may occasionally use facilities at the N.S.C. We recommend that children wear tracksuits on these occasions but will inform you in advance if required. Trainers will be required also at the N.S.C.
For swimming:
If your child takes part in swimming with the school, all girls require a one-piece swimming costume, whilst boys must wear fitted swimming trunks rather than the long Bermuda short style. All children with longer hair MUST wear a swimming hat. Goggles may be worn. Swimming kit should be stored in a strong waterproof bag. Children wear their normal school uniform to school on a swimming day.
All items of clothing do need to be named.
